Introduction

This serves as an index of things I like. If I start writing too much, they might be promoted to their own article.

Horror

Special: To Be Documented

Valle Verde

Animal Crossing.

Quite a number of horror media based on that game. One of my favourite creators, sepiatone made one that I have to cover at some point.

But this one is a layer out - it is its own game entirely. The presentation is also interesting - each video has a disconnected set of analog footage of the game, seemingly to investigate some more experimental parts of it.

We'll Be Right Back

The Sapient AI trope has become commonplace.

In its most classic iteration, this appears in games. Maybe the character you're playing as is an actual sapient entity that is under your control, but may occasionally break out. Maybe it doesn't like the fact that you're in control. Or maybe it wants you to help it do something.

Realistically this can go in several directions. Despite how much it's used, I still feel like it works as fertile ground - you just need to notice the potential of the trope itself. Unfortunately it can feel cliche at times, especially considering how over saturated this has become. In my opinion though, it depends on how it is used. I find that it helps a lot to dive deep into it, rather than using it as a shallow trait.

We'll Be Right Back is a really good example on this trope being done excellently.

The Power Star Archive

Previously we talked about the Sapient AI trope. Now let's explore a subset of it. The Human AI.

What if the AI isn't synthetic, but instead a human who was absorbed by the game and forced to deal with its inner workings. This ends up empowering the horror through a different kind of empathy - because before the AI was, assumedly, in its own domain, but when you throw a human being in there, they now have to wrangle with an entirely alien environment that redefines the rules. Of course, you'd have to retain some understanding of the outside world - as otherwise you'd end up being no different than a regular Sapient AI. Maybe you disagree - but I'll leave that for the philosophers.

In comes the Power Star Archive.
